State of Play, originally a television mini-series produced by BBC One, is now set to be adapted as a feature film. The movie, due to be released in 2008, stars Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, and Russell Crowe, the latter coming into the picture after Brad Pitt dropped out.

The mini-series was originally broadcasted in 2003 and consisted of 6 one-hour episodes based in the United Kingdom. The movie adaptation has moved the location to the United States, although the main characters have been kept the same. The plot centers around an ambitious Congressman whose political career is threatened when his mistress is found dead and foul play is suspected. Crowe plays a campaign manager turned investigative journalist who helps the police in studying the case.

Production of the movie is scheduled to begin in December 2007. The director, Kevin Macdonald, is an award-winning Scottish filmmaker, known for his earlier films The Last King of Scotland and Touching the Void.
